Sen. Grace Poe urges President Duterte to utilize information technology in cutting red tape

Senator Grace Poe on Friday urged President Rodrigo Duterte to utilize information technology to fulfill his promise of eliminating red tape in government.

“The government should harness the power and advantages that information technology offers to eliminate red tape,” Sen. Poe was quoted saying in an article written by Amita Legaspi on GMA News Online stated.

“It is auspicious that we now have a department of information and communications technology could spearhead the immediate implementation of the President’s marching order,” she added.

Duterte, in his inaugural speech Thursday, vowed to cut down red tape as he directed heads of departments and agencies to reduce requirements and the processing time for all applications.

“I order all department secretaries and heads of agencies to remove redundant requirements and compliance with one department or agency, shall be accepted as sufficient for all,” the President said.

In addition to this, Duterte also ordered the department secretaries and heads of agencies to honor the sanctity of government contracts by not changing or bending the rules, as well as transactions and projects that have already been approved and are awaiting implementation.

Meanwhile, Sen. Poe said she hopes that the new department heads will act fast and coordinate with each other to bring about ease of doing business with the government as she welcomed Duterte’s assurance that he will bring about change while observing due process and respecting the rule of law, as well.
